MATKA
cuddle puddle installation for birdcage radio (2019)

A soft and warm place to connect and relax.
The figure represents the mother of all the 'birdies'
as they are called in the birdcage community.
This installation represents safety and a place to sit down,
talk and meet people or just cuddle.
The arms and legs are each 4 meters long, so there is place for everyone.

The idea is that everyone feels welcome and equal in the arms of the matka.
I created a mother, because I feel I miss a sense of safety and belonging
in this world, especially within large groups of people.
I wanted to give everyone who shares the fear of connection
with me (and everyone who doesn't)
the opportunity and space to feel safe.

The matka consists out of fabric, polytherene foam, polytherene balls, fiberfill and glass beads.

a performance on 'Worteldagen' May 2015 Norg, Drenthe

You will follow thesame tracks as your anscestors: walk their paths, experience thesame patterns. As you do this, you will make tracks of your own and leave your imprint for new generations to follow. You can not deny who you are.

Organism

Installation that causes friction between two elements: living and dead material.
By hanging the cardboard boxes and the brown tape on the wall in a certain way, they gain an organic quality.
Thomas Hirschhorn has inspired me during the making of this installation.
